Advanced Air is the only airline that lands in Mammoth itself — Mammoth Yosemite Airport sits six miles east of town, a ten-minute taxi from the Village. Fly anywhere else in the Eastern Sierra and you're still an hour of mountain road from your first chairlift.
This page works in both directions. If you live at 7,880 feet, the same aircraft is how Mammoth reaches Los Angeles and San Diego — appointments, family, LAX connections — without giving US-395 a whole day each way.
And a local's note before you plan the lake day: there is no 'Mammoth Lake.' More than a hundred alpine lakes scatter the basin — that's the point.

From the runway to town — $10
New for summer 2026: the ESTA Express airport shuttle runs between MMH, the Park & Ride on Tavern and the Village for $10 a seat, on flight days (Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, June 25–September 7) — every run is timed to an arrival or departure. Reserve at estransit.com or 1-800-922-1930. Otherwise MMH is ten minutes from town by taxi (well north of $100 each way) or hotel shuttle, and Enterprise and National keep rental counters at the airport.
Check-in, mountain edition
Arrive 45 minutes before departure and check any bags at least 45 minutes out. Two checked pieces up to 50 lbs combined fly free — and a ski or board bag plus boot bag counts as one piece.

Which airport does Advanced Air fly to in Mammoth?

How do I get from Mammoth airport to town?

How long is the flight to Mammoth?
About 1 hour 15 minutes from Hawthorne (Los Angeles) and about 1 hour 25 from Carlsbad (San Diego North County), per the current schedule. The drive those flights replace runs five to seven-plus hours each way.

Can I do Mammoth without a car?
Yes, genuinely — and in summer 2026 even the airport leg is covered: the $10 ESTA Express shuttle meets flight days at MMH. In town, stay near the Village or Canyon Lodge and use the free town shuttles (year-round), the free Lakes Basin Trolley in summer (bike rack included) and the free Village Gondola in winter.
You only need a car — or one taxi splurge — for Convict Lake, Hot Creek, the hot springs, June Lake and Tom's Place. Enterprise and National have counters at MMH.
How does the Reds Meadow / Devils Postpile shuttle work in 2026?
The shuttle from Main Lodge is mandatory for most visitors, and 2026 road reconstruction means it runs Thursday–Sunday only, July 2 through September 20. Reserve peak-hour (8 AM–3 PM) tickets ahead at mammothmountain.com.

Town sits at about 7,880 feet and the summit at 11,053. Plan a mellow first half-day, drink more water than feels necessary, and go easy on alcohol the first night — then you're acclimated for the big days.
Do skis and snowboards fly free?
Two checked pieces, combined up to 50 lbs, are included with every ticket — and snow-sports equipment counts as one piece (ski or board bag plus a boot bag). Excess or overweight items are generally $50 each, space-available.
When should I get to the airport?
At minimum, arrive 45 minutes before departure — the brand-wide standard. Mammoth Yosemite recommends two hours in winter, when weather and full flights are in play, and any bags need to be checked at least 45 minutes before wheels-up. If you're returning a rental car at MMH, give yourself a small buffer on top.

Hawthorne (HHR) is a small private-terminal airport 10 minutes from LAX and about 20 from the Westside. Rideshare is easy, LAX shuttles can be arranged 48+ hours ahead, and parking at HHR runs about $50 a day — many South Bay travelers just get dropped off.
